Once again Retro Show lived up to its name with a ravishing retro spectacle everywhere you looked! We took you back to the past fast with some superb retro racing out on the track, a stunning congregation of vintage show vehicles plus entertainment and attractions that transported us back to a bygone era. All you Dad’s that joined us this Father’s Day – we hope you had a fantastic day celebrating here with us at Santa Pod Raceway!

It was Father vs Son over in the Autotest! Our first trophy of the day went to Kevin Swam, completing the track in an impressive 33.44 seconds in his Ford Escort followed closely by Jake Swam and his Ford Cortina. Well done Kevin!

The Drift Arena was busy all day hosting The Retro Drifting Challenge where we witnessed the UK’s top retro drifters put on a sideways driving, tyre smoking, rubber burning extravaganza. Congratulations to winner Martin Wonnacott and all who competed.

The Show Paddock was full to the brim for The Autoglym Show & Shine Competition with a dazzling display of Retro cars and bikes. From modified Minis to 70’s Ford Cortinas, a stunning classic Mercedes to a very cool Lamborghini Countach, the judges had a very tough time deciding the winners with deliberations continuing right up to the presentations! We salute all of you who entered – you did us proud with top machinery throughout! However, after many turns around the paddock, I’m sure you’ll agree, the winners were as follows:

Best of Show: Ashley Scutt – Red 1982 BMW E30 – b6 Alpina Tribute, 17” Alpina alloys, Race air sacks, triple webers. Immaculate! This car had the whole package! In true Father’s Day style, this build was one of many Father and Son projects.

Supercharged Outlaws, Wildbunch and Nostalgia Pro Stock Bike were out in force on the quarter mile; with an eclectic mix of slingshots, altered, dragsters and original bikes from the 80s we witnessed some great racing with smokey burnouts and passes well into the 7 second zone! Wildbunch’s Bob Hawkins’s checkout pass on Saturday was a cool 6.92secs @ 201.68mph!!! The class also saw back to back PBs with “The Villian” running 7.89secs @ 171mph and 7.91secs @ 170mph.

We welcomed back to the track, Oklahoma Willy – The VW Jet Pick Up; this lovingly restored American beauty ran a 11.84secs @ 155.80mph. Joining the flame and thunder party, tearing up the raceway, we saw Martin Hill’s Fireforce 5 Jet Dragster run at a breath-taking 5.30secs @ 261.98mph!

The Run What Ya Brung sessions saw a varied and vibrant mix of retro vehicles hitting the dragstrip with some very impressive ET’s. The results of the RWYB competition were as follows:

Cool Flo BMX lived up to their name and pulled out all the stops keeping the crowds entertained with their team of outstanding pro riders performing jaw-dropping stunts throughout the day. Historic Aero Engines took us back in time with an awesome demonstration of their iconic Rolls-Royce Merlin engines.

For those of you who made a weekend of it, Saturday night in Fueler’s Bar saw Rockabilly band, Rock-Ola Rockets take to the stage playing 50s & 60s hits for you all to party to. On Sunday, we were movin’ and a groovin’ over in the Show Paddock as Retro DJ Disco’s Revenge and The John Burrows band kept us rockin’ and rollin’ from the Live Stage.
